A must have app that will be your guide in a new city and help you with all the information of the place just a click away. It is always prudent to have relevant trip information at your fingertips.

  1. Cash/ Credit card

Cards: Try and carry 2 cards, preferably one Visa and one Mastercard as both aren’t accepted everywhere. If you have to take only one, take visa – it’s generally more widely accepted.

Cash: As you already have carried a card, it is advisable to carry some amount of cash as well. You can avoid possible ATM fees at your destination by withdrawing enough cash before you skip town. Also, never ignore spare change.

  1. Mini medical kit

It is always advised to carry a mini medical kit as you might find it difficult to find medical services available easily. So, in case of an emergency, keep a first-aid kit handy. Arm yourself with band-aids, gauze pads, antiseptic lotions and cream, a good sized bale of cotton and some quick medicines and other preventive medication. Make sure you pack regular medicines, if you have any. It is always better to be safe than sorry!

Indian travellers planning more international trips in 2015: TripAdvisor

TripAdvisor has announced the results of the TripBarometer1 study, one of the world’s largest accommodation and traveller survey. Conducted on behalf of TripAdvisor by independent research firm Ipsos, the TripBarometer study is the analysis of more than 44,000 global responses from travellers and the hotel sector, with 1037 respondents from India.

According to the study, more than half (53 per cent) Indians will increase their travel budget in 2015. Of those planning to increase their travel spend, 52 per cent indicate that they plan to do so because they feel vacations are something they or their family deserve and 46 per cent say it is because they are going somewhere on their ‘wish list’ this year. On the other hand, only 23 per cent Indians say they are decreasing their travel spend this year and that is largely driven by financial factors. Around 37 per cent of those cutting spend this year say they do not have enough money saved, while 33 per cent are planning a shorter trip and 27 per cent plan to visit less expensive countries.

Commenting on the findings Nikhil Ganju, country manager, TripAdvisor India said, “Against the conducive backdrop of general optimism about the prospects of the Indian economy, both travellers and hoteliers are expressing clear intentions that paint a positive picture for the Indian travel sector in 2015. Significantly, this optimism looks set to translate into a sharp spike in the number of Indians travelling abroad this year. At the same time, Indian hoteliers ranked second on the global hotelier confidence index, resonating their own confidence in the economy’s prospects.”

Globally, two in five travellers are planning to spend more on travel in 2015 than they did last year, with travellers twice as likely to increase rather than decrease their travel budgets. Forty one per cent of travellers globally plan to up their travel budgets in 2015, while 23 per cent say they will decrease their spending.

Swine flu: UAE advises citizens against travelling to India

DUBAI, March 5 : The United Arab Emirates (UAE) Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abu Dhabi warned its citizens against travelling to India due to the spread of swine flu.

Out of the 9 million residents in the UAE, around 30 percent are Indian nationals, forming the biggest group of expatriates, Xinhua reported.

All four UAE airliners, Emirates Airline, Etihad Airways, Air Arabia and FlyDubai offer daily flights from the UAE cities to Indian cities. (IANS)

Lonely Planet India launches its digital campaign ‘India Unexplored’

Lonely Planet India has launched ‘India Unexplored’, an exciting new digital campaign to find the best hidden spots and experiences throughout the country. Hosted on the Lonely Planet India website (www.lonelyplanet.in) and promoted on social media channels including Facebook, Twitter, Google + and Instagram, ‘India Explored’ will see participants submit their discoveries of lesser known destinations across India. This is a 45 day digital campaign that launches on 4 October 2014 and will be live until 17 November 2014.

‘India Unexplored’ is a pan-India digital campaign by Lonely Planet India where participants can submit their discoveries of lesser known destinations under the following special themes:

  • SEE: This special theme is all about sharing lesser known and unexplored beaches, hill stations, mountains and interesting places to visit in our country, including natural and man-made attractions.
  • DO: In this special theme, the participants will share their adventure endeavours and experiences such as paragliding, skiing, rafting or trekking etc.
  • EAT: Here participants will share places which are interesting to eat at.
